The Animal, Immunization and the Senior Advisory Councils were set up when the need for the support of the entire community in taking positive steps towards improving the health of our community was recognized.
 
Air and Water Pollution Services monitors compliance with air and water regulations. Responds to citizen complaints and inquiries concerning air and surface water quality.
 
Animal Services provides animal and rabies control services including licensing of cats and dogs, investigating bite incidents and other animal related complaints, and enforcing leash laws.
 
The Animal Shelter provides animal adoption services and shelters impounded animals.
 
Birth and Death Records registers all birth and death records for Galveston County, except for the City of Texas City.
 
Career, volunteer, internship and physician rotation opportunities are offered in all areas of the Health District
 
Community Health Services focuses on Community Outreach type programs, Breast Cancer Screening, Home Visits/Referrals, Immunizations, Senior Health Corp , STD/HIV Outreach , Texas Vaccine for Kids, Training Classes, Tuberculosis Elimination and WIC (Women, Infants and Children).
 
Consumer Health Division is responsible for permitting and inspections of food service establishments, public and semi-public swimming pools, permitted animal facilities, and on-site sewerage facilities.
 
Dental Clinics provide preventative dentistry, counseling and treatment.
 
Environmental Health Services regulates food production and service, private sewerage facility installations, private water wells, swimming pool operations and various other environmental programs. In addition a variety of classes are offered throughout the year for swimming pool operators, food service managers and food handlers.
 
Epidemiology provides a basis for public health planning and disease control through surveillance activities which attempt to identify disease cases and trends. Functions include encouraging, monitoring, and investigating reports by physicians, hospitals, schools, and the general public and the provision of disease prevention information as needed.
 
Galveston County Coordinated Community Clinics (4C's) offers quality health services, provided by a competent, caring staff of doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.  Services provided to the underinsured and medically indigent population of Galveston County include women’s health, family planning/pregnancy, and limited dental & mental health services.
 
Galveston Emergency Medical Service (EMS) provides emergency medical care to persons on Galveston Island and provides transfer services for Galveston and participating Mainland communities
 
Immunizations provide necessary vaccinations for newborns, infants, preschool and school age children, and adults. Immunization clinics are located throughout Galveston County.
 
Public Health Preparedness  Through on-going community-wide planning, assists to provide answers and links for emergency public health concerns resulting from disaster and disease outbreaks, whether intentional and unintentional.
 
Public Health Laboratory provides laboratory services for health care providers, municipalities, private water supply owners, and others in the community.
 
Senior Health Corps links Galveston County seniors to the preventive and primary and non-emergency heath care of the 4C's medical clinics, the public health programs, other community resources and supports self health care for seniors in Galveston County. The clinics serve the Senior Health Corps members as a family type medical home for primary and non-emergency medical care.
 
Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD/HIV) Control provides education, diagnosis and treatment for all sexually transmitted diseases.
 
Texas Health Steps provides medical and dental evaluations for qualifying children under the age of 21
 
Tuberculosis Services and Chest Clinic provides screening, diagnosis, treatment, and education to prevent tuberculosis (TB). Clients are examined and a preventive regimen is available where indicated. Education regarding the disease is provided to clients, their contacts, and the general public.
 
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) serve pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women and infants and children under five (5) years old who are at nutritional risk. Program services include nutrition assessments, nutrition counseling, group nutrition education, and provision of supplemental nutritious foods.
