Summary of Proposed Changes to
"Galveston Health District Rules for Animal Control"

Section .004(a): Changes the immunization period from the old requirement of an annual rabies vaccination to the more permissive current Texas Department of Health standard (adopted in March 03) found in chapter 169 T.A.C. 169.29. This rule permits the use of a three-year vaccine and recognizes a three year vaccination interval associated with a three-year vaccine. The rule also allows the use of a one-year vaccine if desired by the veterinarian and client.

Section .006 (a), (c) and (d) have had references to an annual dog or cat license requirements removed and instead set the dog or cat license period at an interval to be determined by the Galveston County United Board of Health.

Section .007 has been modified by removing all specific pet licensing and wild or vicious animal registration fees, and instead stating that these fees will be set by the Galveston County United Board of Health.
