Health District
Presents
Strategic Health Plan at National
Conference
August 13, 2004
La Marque
– The Galveston
County Health District’s Strategic
Health Plan was recently presented to
attendees of the National Association
of Local Boards of Health at its conference
recently held in Denver Colorado.
Representing the District
was Mary Anne Holcomb, Secretary and Treasurer
of the Galveston County United Board of
Health. Ms. Holcomb also serves on the
Kemah City Council. Dr. Mark Guidry, Galveston
County Health Authority also assisted
in the presentation along with Brian Rutherford
the District’s Health Planner.
The Strategic Health Plan
was selected by conference planners to
be presented due to its innovative approach
towards addressing a community’s
health needs. During the presentation
the local representatives outlined the
steps taken in the development of the
plan, and the priorities and goals that
were adopted as a result.
“As a member of the
United Board of Health I am excited to
share this information with others interested
in developing healthy communities,”
says Holcomb. “Health District staff,
board members, and the community assisted
greatly in the development of this plan
that will help us in addressing some of
the most important issues facing our community’s
health”
The plan was received well
and many comments offered that it would
be very beneficial for other health districts
and departments to embark on a similar
planning process.
Dr. Mark Guidry stated, “I
am very proud to represent the District
and share this important tool with others,
but most of all I am proud of the coordinated,
behind-the-scenes work of many Health
District employees who supported this
important effort every step of the way
and made it a reality.”
