| Partners and Food Service Recognized During Public Health Week

– The Galveston County Health District will
observe “National Public Health Week” on
April 4th by recognizing
businesses, organizations and individuals in the community
that do an exceptional job of contributing to the public's health.
We recognize that improving the health of Galveston County requires a
community-wide effort. This year we are proud to publicly recognize those whose
dedication and efforts are contributing, significantly, to the health of county
communities,” says Dr. Mark Guidry, the District’s Chief Executive Officer and Health
Authority. “It is an honor to recognize exceptional food safety, partner organizations, and volunteers."
On April 4th at 2 pm in the Community Room of the Island Community Center, 4700 Broadway in Galveston, the Health District will recognize the following contributions of organizations and individuals:
- For
public health
disaster
preparedness
– Galveston ISD, Clear Creek ISD,
Seaborne Challenge Corps, American Red Cross
- For epidemiology disease reporting:
– Galveston ISD School Nurses
- For highest childhood immunization rates among
Vaccine for Children providers – Friendswood
Pediatric Associates, Texas City Pediatric Associates, Dr.
Rathna Sastry, Friendswood’s Texas Children’s Pediatric
Associates, UTMB’s Regional Maternal Child Health
- For coordinating EMS education – Martha

Also on April 4th at 7pm, the
Health District will present
its 10th annual
“Gold Ribbon” awards to
exemplary food service establishments.
The awards will be presented during a ceremony
at the Wayne Johnson Community Center in La Marque beginning at 7 pm. Galveston
County Judge Jim Yarbrough will be on hand along with
other city and county
officials to
present
the
prestigious food service awards.
“We enjoy taking this opportunity each year to
recognize those operators doing a great job in the arena of food service,” says
Martin Entringer the District’s manager of Consumer Health Services. “All too
often people only hear about problems with food service establishments and we
feel that good news should be shared with the community. There are many food
service establishments doing an
excellent
job.”
